Does doing a PhD at Exeter pay off?
Dont worry mate, rumor has it they're leaving.
I had a quick look at some recent hires in Exeter and found them quite solid relative to Exeter's rank as a department.
That is totally true. Exeter is now going for people who already have a solid publication record. It took most juniors 10 years to get decent publications, so they realized it is better to just go for people who already showed they can publish.

Half the new junior hires have no publications. Most of the 'old' juniors all have Top 5s and Top 5 r&rs.
Interesting approach to hiring...Get a dozen of human beings! Apply pressure and treat them badly. Keep the ones who manage to survive. Fire those who can't survive! Next year, hire another 10 or even 20...:)
10! Heard people there already sharing offices.
Ten offers out
I enjoyed a virtual visit there and got an offer. Not sure what because I have 2 others but the people I met at Exeter were all pleasant and have strong research profiles so it is difficult to know why there is all of this hate on here.how much do they offer?
I received an offer. It was not enough especially as I would not get my own office.
