Why should he change his behavior? Seems to get along quite well in the corrupt jungle of academia
As an Exeter insider, I was at the same time shocked and not surprised to read this rather astonishing thread.
Although having only had a short experience of him and the missus so far, my prior does not deviate significantly from the above reports.

Leaving does not sound like getting along well with people to me.
Let's see how long it lasts before they leave again. It doesn't seem long before they get some people at Exeter to rage against them too, unless they change their behaviour.
Both were hired as friends/buddies of the HoD. Check out her visits (and their's) over the past few years. The Austrian lady acts as Exeter HoDs babysitter! The Exeter HoD went to Greece for her friend's wedding -- can't say if for him or her...

Both "hires" are sorry tales of Exeter Econ HoDs hires. She was God, with weak, snivelling Dean. She may not last long as UoE Econ HoD (she may become Dean)! Seriously, after hiring two of her own Phd students (as faculty) against the wishes of her Department, the Queen had truly over-reached. Only the snivelling Dean was Ok with it. Hopefully, for Exeter, the "new" VC understands what is going on...

Are you the person who was moved to a teaching contract in Exeter and then went to Brunel?
David Allen, the Dean, is now a professor of Business 'Ethics'. He is probably the most corrupt academic in the UK. The new VC must be a sarcastic person.
