A position is opening? Should I apply?
University of Innsbruck postdocs

thisIf true, OP should get in touch with a local newspaper
Apparently, he himself made it official in a faculty meeting. He has a deal with the rector that allows him to give her a tenure-track position in Innsbruck.
So he starts an affair with a PhD student, continues to date and supervise her, is on her dissertation committee, gives her a PostDoc position, gives her an award from a research foundation he chairs, lets her publish her only single-authored paper in a special issue he is editing and now arranges a rigged appointment procedure to give her a professorship.
JUST WOW.If true, that's a real scandal. Why would people in Innsbruck allow all this to happen? That's poison for a department.

This thread is a cheap dirt campaign and clearly shows the downside of this site.
Embarrassing!Nope, ain't no dirt campaign. Even though it hurts sometimes, it's the plain truth.
I think this thread puts the facts together nicely. Everybody can judge him/herself. And a question: who would say all this publicly? (Da kann man sich auch ein hübsches Loch ins Knie bohren...)

NO! It's their damn duty to call this out publicly. If a professor starts acting like this, the dean has to talk sense into him. And what about the other faculty members? You would understand why postdocs would say nothing. But what about the other tenured professors? They have no excuse. Why would they be complicit in this?

Did he fool the rector or is such behavior in Innsbruck even tolerated by the rector?
Details please!

The unfortunate truth is that Austrians are too used to nepotism. Even though this case is particularly shameless, the slightly more subtle kind is the norm in Austrian universities, and ultimately no one cares. It's a lovely place, but best avoided for anything academia-related. Germany / Switzerland are (somewhat) better.
