Except LSE can always pull an 'Imperial', get some hedge fund money and hire some more Top professors. Challenging LSE amazing placement record will take any department in Europe decades.
It took them a while but I think they are making good use of that UBS money by now. It is a well run department with very good people and tons of funds that will challenge LSE for the top spot in Europe in a couple of years.

Dorn running junior hiring this year was a disaster. Very narrow taste for reduced-form cutenomics and a very tribal guy (basically only wants to hire labor). Also totally inexperienced and clueless how the market works (at least without Autor’s help). They made an offer to two candidates: one got at MIT offer, the other was an American with a two-body problem (husband with private sector job in Boston) and she had a BU offer. No surprise this did not work.
