What impressions do you have? From what I have read so far there are contrasting opinions, the only thing everyone agrees on is that they have a lot of money.
1) What do you think of univeristy of Zurich right now?
2) Do you think they can improve in the next 5/10 years?
3) Which fields are thy stronger at?
University of Zurich?

The money allowed them to attract Pycia, Scheuer, Jaimovich, Ossa, Yanagizawa-Drott etc. over the past few years. Those are the guys running the department right now. Ossa is department chair, Crawford DGS, Scheuer is running the UBS Center. Hardly crazy people.
Why all this Zurich hate? Those are respected and nice people. Is it just that people are jealous of the money they have?

I heard postdocs make 100k there?
Starting is more like 80k with mandated increases for each year of post-PhD experience.
Plus there is ~15% on top for pension and social fees that in most countries would be considered part of gross salary but isn't in Switzerland.

1) good place in general. Easily better than maryland or rochester for example.
2) considering zurich will hire at least 10 more people, it will be top place in continental europe, maybe similar to lse.
3) applied micro and behavioral. If they can attract one big shot in macro, then in macro too. -
Who are the bigshots they have in behavioral except Fehr? Who are their bigshots in applied micro except Zweimueller and perhaps Yanagizawa?
By that measure, they're equally strong in international, public, macro and theory, where they also have one bigshot each (Ossa, Scheuer, Jaimovich, Pycia).
