Vote: productivity during Covid

# of submissions has sky rocketed. review time is less clear.
The number of submissions skyrocketed because authors finalized their projects/papers. However, do they also produce new manuscripts? In this regard, I would really like to know how many new insights are currently produced.

the problems are:
there is much less interaction with colleagues and professors; hard to communicate ideas
mental health is an urgent issue; nobody to talk to; listen to the same set of songs all the time
virtual conferences are more like winner-takes-it-all; so almost all except HRMs are harmed

IMHO phd students in the late stage of program are in the worst position, with or without kids. Schools don't care about them, low budget, advisors have even less time to advise, no access to on-campus data, no networking opportunities in the seminars or conferences, and quite ambiguous job prospects. Everything has become much slower and harder. Plus, the mental health is not getting better -- phd studies were stressful before covid, now it's got much worth, with less human contact and being away from their families.

I was teaching when it started. The transition sapped all my time. Then over the summer, I was hyper-productive. I had a ton of time, and very little to do.
I started getting burned out in the fall, but my productivity was probably about average. Now I'm back to teaching and it is really painful.
Also, the journals have wayyy slowed down in my experience. My papers have been spending 50%-100% longer than usual to get decisions. The decisions have been more favorable than average, but with such a small sample that's basically impossible to guage.
