Come on! I am also in the market. I think it is a fair assessment to say that she does not have a great curriculum. There are probably things beyond that that gave her the job. But, from what you can see, it really seems like a miracle.

Oh come on.... Go browse other liberal art colleges econ department websites. You will find a number of blondes without a single publication after 4 or 5 years. They are hired for the same objective....but still EJMR knows how to disappoint...

Perhaps I was not clear. That was not me being envious (I am not even on the market. I only knew her because someone I followed on Twitter liked her tweet). I just found it so unfair for others with much more impressive profiles who did not even get an interview. And this was all under the disguise of the “diversity hiring” bullcrap that departments were advocating.

Let us follow the "diversity hiring" bullcrap line. But I am on the market. I can tell you I have significantly better CV than hers. I applied to this school and was rejected 2 months ago. But when we know that the system has already failed to give a competitive platform for everyone and particularly pushed women and URM out of the field (since they do not see someone that looks like them), what do you recommend us to do to make this field more inclusive?

You have no idea whether or not her JMP is an abstract. She has an abstract on her website, sure, but maybe she just hasn't posted the full version on there. I could imagine candidates having their reasons.
I'm upset I didn't get the position. But it is a tough year, I am happy for her. I am sure she appreciates it and will make the most of it.

You may not like it, but researcher demand is about more than some unobservable quality of research ability. If your observables are like most other products, then you must do costly differentiation. If your observables are different, then you may choose different strategies are required for eliciting demand.
I say this as a JMC who applied and was rejected by W&L.

No. I never considered W&L before this job market. This is part of what I find funny about people on here since in any given year most people would not care about this job. But, with demand down 60%, all eyes are on the few jobs that come about.
Additionally, I think my point is misconstrued by you or another. A researcher is an entire package of both observable and unobservable characteristics, and all of these matter to departments as they are choosing their portfolio of researchers (and obv teachers/colleagues for a lower rank school). When its only white guys (same observables), then only unobservables matter for differentiation. If you are obviously different, then you need to do less costly signaling.
The people who have to compete wish they did not. This is true in any market.
