What is the average number of applications you should have? I heard that some people applied around 150 and 200 universities. How can it be possible?
What a waste of my time

ALL advisors think their students get too few calls. They do not realize that things have gotten much more competitive since they days when they were looking for a job, or even since the last time they were on the search committee. Advisors are overly optimistic, discount their expectations for you.

I'm in a similar situation to you. I have a theory that if the demand side sees that you're corporately employed - it's a strike against you - in that you already have a job. Can anyone from the demand side confirm this?
ThanksDemand side here: all about the publications. Couldn't care less if you're in industry if you have publications.
