Based on the Tsinghua SEM faculty profiles, the standard for promotion is not at all clear. Some faculty who were recently promoted don't even have a recent cv or working papers online.
The former department chair and executive associate dean (the only active remaining senior faculty in the department) does not meet the current standard at Tsinghua SEM for full professor.
This suggests that either senior faculty are unable to evaluate the research of junior faculty, or that there is heavy politics there, or both...
Juniors who are productive in research seem to be actively seeking other job options or may be forced to leave just because they refuse to kiss ass of school administrators and senior faculty.
