I think you should start focus now on the job market paper. You just got a JET. Contact your letter writers and put the word out you're going out. I cannot imagine you wouldn't be moving up considerably seeing as how there's a tremendous amount of information about your future productivity now.
Really, the main constraint OP is going to face is weak demand for theory people, period. Another reason for top 1000 placement in the first place I bet, especially if OP's alma mater was weak.
Life improves for you OP with the JET. And it will continue to do so with more pubs. Go on the market, see what happens. If it dominates the top 1000 in every respect, seriously consider it. Your likelihood of tenure just shot up at least, which isn't such a bad thing. Hell they probably are meeting to give you tenure right this second since your JET is worth more than the combined pubs of every person in your dept. Be a good guy about it, and enjoy this.
OP here (0c84 as well), thanks to all for feedback and advice. I guess the reason I ended up in a really, really low placement was (1) tough market (in particular in theory), (2) didnt have time to start publishing process of thesis before going on the market, (3) non-famous letter writers and (4) LRM. Understandably, the market took close to zero interest in me. I am happy you think I have a chance to move up, I really need it to stay productive.

Well 2 of them are the same (34 and 40). That doesn't look too good. They're all co-authored, as well.
I have output, that puts me way above average in plenty of departments where I can't get a job. What got them into this messes that they insisted on gambling and hiring graduates that turned into lemons, but won't hire proven steady producers.

It was a valid question and a stupid answer. Having a good "excuse" for why you bombed in the market would help your letter writers to make a case that there is nothing wrong with you so that the hiring committee should not be afraid to take a chance. Without that, people may suspect that something happened on your original market (your original letters were awful for a reason, you suck at presenting, are deeply annoying etc.)
If you have a pretty good excuse for why you ended up in a top 1000 in the first place, that'll help.

When he was hired with tenure,he just had 1/3 jet,coauthored with two seniors.
aren't you guys overstating the influence of this a little bit...i mean is obviously going to help this guy, but plenty of candidates right out of phd have a top field pub these days, most with good pedigree to boot. A JET is hardly a ticket to TT at a school you have heard of for a LRM.
Plenty of job market candidates have a JET? Nope. That's untrue. In fact, most people don't have JETs, period. It's a very difficult journal to crack. I think it's absolutely a strong signal. Everyone else's point that people may discount it somewhat based on coauthorship and pipeline and credentials and stuff is a good point, but it mainly speaks to how high up he could move, not whether at the intensive margin he could move. I know that if he was fresh out, and he just landed a JET, my dept would look at him, and we're above top 1000. How deep into 100 he could move will depend on a lot of factors, and I suspect OP is investing in those factors.
