I have an interesting paper that I don't know where to send it to. The obvious place is Economics of Education Review but it is extremely low ranked in most rankings and my university would not count it for tenure.
What are my options? JOLE, JHR, AEJ: Applied? Anyone has experiences publishing an education paper in this or other journals?
If the quality is high, send it to top 5. I've seen many good education papers in top 5. JOLE, JHR and AEJ: Applied are also good options. You may consider RES as well.
In education, try JPAM, Education Finance and Policy, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness. These are journals I would send empirical papers to. EER is a good journal in education but its impact is not so high in education.

If you think the paper is "interesting" then it's not going to do better than Economics of Education Review. To do better than EcER it needs to be impressive. Education is one of the toughest fields to publish in:

If you want to do better than EcER or education journals, pick any of the standard labor journals. You're probably wasting your time though. Something tells me you're a grad student.
