No, it was ok until 2016. It was actually at its peak in 2008-2015. I remember when I started college, everything was ok-ish. Then coup stuff, Erdo getting more aggressive and bombs… All downhill from there, like the happiness of people significantly dropped.

In the past I would have said Istanbu hands down. Turkey was secular, populated by Turks. Turkey is still beautiful especially if you have 4 to 5 thousand dollars of passive income but İstanbul is screwed. There are millions of Syrians, Iranians, Afghans, Uzbeks, Libyans, Iraqis etc. For us Turks the city is gone. There are few well to do neighborhoods where it still feels like the old Turkey.
I recommend the Aegean and the Mediterranean coasts of Turkey. It is still Turkish, secular and nice.
