Surface is a complete waste of money - why the hell do you need to pay more for a silly touchscreen and terrible keyboard?? You know you're paying for those unnecessary novelty right?
Just get a nice $2300 ThinkPad with i7, 20+ GB RAM, SSD, great built quality, 2k screen, light and upgradeable. Job done.

Not happy with a Mac? I am considering buying one of Apple's Macbooks for the first time ever and thinking whether the switch is worth it.
If money isn't an issue I think Mac's are good. I'm happy with mine. Had them since 2014. I recommend AppleCare though as they seem to treat you better (for example I've had a problem and they just gave me a brand new computer [newer model] and got me out of the store in 20 minutes).

I really like my surface laptop. I was deciding between the surface laptop and the dell xps, and went with the former because of the awkward webcam placement on the dell xps. However, they fixed the webcam placement on the dell xps so you can't go wrong with that. My next laptop will probably be a dell xps as they generally get very positive reviews
One thing I really like about the surface is aspect ratio on the screen. But if you compare pure performance vs the money, you can't go wrong with the dell xps
