I asked this because I was at a conference where someone was pretty rude and disrespectful to me. Not related to research at all, just an asshole and creep to me as a person. This hasn't happened to me before so I think it's pretty rare.
As a junior person I feel like I can't really fight back but I want to try to avoid this guy and others like him going forward.

Don't fight back. When people behave that way toward me, I shrug it off with the thought that people who behave that way are largely miserable souls, so I take comfort in the likely fact that they make themselves way more miserable than they could ever make me miserable.

No wonder he teams with JB. JB is literally the most incompetent financial economist, not because ignorant but because he greatly overestimates his knowledge. Also he doesn’t understand that his model on mutual funds has been empirically falsified so many times that it is pathetic to base a whole research agenda on it. He’s exactly one of those “assume a can opener” type of researchers.
PM at Washington, GB at Maryland, BK at Booth, AL at NYU, MOH and AK at Cornell, and so many others. Honestly, finance academia is sleazier than industry (bonuses incentivize working together) and any other academic field. I regularly shock my friends telling them about the crap that goes on in finance academia.
