This old chestnut

are diversity agents parasites? I am sure even they know this
Post I know this whole thread started as a joke, but I think the discussion it sparked is interesting. Especially the vitriol from non-minority men blaming reverse discrimination for, well, everything. You see, I used to be that guy. Then, 10 years ago I met my (very smart) wife. Over the past decade, she has pointed out small ways that I, other men and even she, herself, are sexist and racist. To be honest, it frequently gets annoying and I still get defensive when she points out stuff I do. But she's almost always right---to the point that I've reversed direction on reverse discrimination. It sucks to be a woman or minority. The crowing example is the two years I served on the search committee. The second year, she meticulously went through each application before I evaluated it and marked out names and other gender/race identifying factors (including undergraduate university). I then evaluated the application packets and made my shortlist much as I had my first year on the committee (except I refrained from looking at candidates' websites). Afterwards, we compared the gender/race make up of my shortlists for both years. The second year's shortlist contained noticeably more women and Asian (especially Chinese) men. It contained noticeably fewer white men. Neither list had any other minorities (as we all know, the applicant pool here is very, very thin...). Of course, this is a small sample and reflects only my own bias. But, d****mn. Many finance departments are trying to limit the number of Chinese as I know.
