   I think it has more to do with the decline of France. France was an elite power in the 18th and 19th century only to turn tail when it mattered most in the 20th century.

   That was not the first time the Germans had overpowered the French. It happened twice in the 70 years before WW2.

   But the French are the ones hell bent on wanting to show the Germans their place. For example, the French were super eager to settle the score when they mobilized for WW1. Belgians and Dutch didn’t tr@$h talk the Germans, like the French do. The French are ridiculed for their arrogance.

   The Irish were worse than the French as well, remained neutral while England fought. Then again the Irish sent their deepest condolences to Germany in 1945 over the death of Hitler, I guess they were truly indifferent to the outcome

The scale and intensity of both countries’ resistance to the German (plus USSR in Poland’s case and Italy + Bulgaria in Yugoslavia’s). And hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions lost their lives fighting Axis occupation.
   Compare to Netherlands, which happily acceded to becoming a German colony after four days of fighting, and despite allied support. Plus the occupied Dutch government ran the Holocaust in the Netherlands on the Germans’ behalf. Dutch should be ashamed, truly.

    Also, the only truly strong resistant bros in WW2 were polishbros. So much bolls of steel, even though they got it on both fronts. Truly strong bros the Poles.

    The Dutch were gonna fight back initially, but when they saw the cost of guns and ammunitions they thought "no way". This is why they get a pass - no one expected anything different.

    A significant part of the Dutch, including many army officers, welcomed the Nazi invasion. The Queen and cabinet fled to England as soon as they could. Hitler bombed Rotterdam and threatened to bomb Amsterdam next. So what was the Dutch army (the part at least that was not cool with Nazism) supposed to do? Surrender was the only option.
