   why would you have expected the irish to fight with/under the English? The whole 800 years of colonization makes that kind of collaboration hard. Anglos got what was coming

   Funny the Irish guys here just added completely on their that they would somehow be fighting “under” the English if the Irish had fought. they can’t even conceptualize doing something on the world stage for its own right without worrying about being beneath the English. I’m sure the nazis would have left you perfectly alone if things had gone their way. Just own it bros, the Canadians put you c0wards to shame ; and I’m not English so please spare me your tears about how I should please stop colonizing you.

   We are perfectly capable of conceptualizing that. We also conceptualize that the possible outcomes were (a) Nazis destroyed, few Brits dead (b) Nazis destroyed, many Brits dead. We wisely chose the best option.

   The dutch and Belgians are not cowards like some people here seem to suggest. Dutch officials and royals immediately told the Germans that since *they* were invading, it was only fair for *them* to pay for the bullets and weapons the Dutch would have to use in the war. The Queen in particular tried to use all sorts of analogies to convince the Germans: "it's like throwing a party at someone else's house and not bring at least the wine", "it's like taking somebody else's car to go to a festival and have them pay for the gas, too", etc. but the Germans would hear none of it.
