We have all heard the jokes about the French surrendering easily. But how about the 6'5" alpha Dutch surrendering after 5 days? Yes, I know France was a larger country with more resources. But one would think that proud colonial powers like Belgium and the Netherlands could have put up more of a fight.
Why do the Dutch and Belgians get a pass for surrending easily in 1940?

I think it has more to do with the decline of France. France was an elite power in the 18th and 19th century only to turn tail when it mattered most in the 20th century.
That was not the first time the Germans had overpowered the French. It happened twice in the 70 years before WW2.

Doesn't matter, still got Alsace

Doesn't matter, still got Alsace
You mean you got it back after the Germanbros took it from you in 1871.
And for that to be possible, the allies had to fly in and ship in impoverished people from all corners of the globe to defend your native soil (because you are incapable of defending yourselves)

lets face it, they are kind of germans and very quite sympathetic to the imperial rhetoric, no?
Indeed. Holland to Germany is as Georgia to Alabama (except the Euros are more civilized and competent than the US goobers). Not that much difference.
and Friesland is to Holland as Georgia is to Yucatan

Why do you even want Alsace, though? I'd describe those people as crypto-Germans, but they're really not that crypto about it--when I visited, I probably saw it spelled "Elsass" three times as often as "Alsace."

Letting someone else rule the government than die is usually a good choice when you are not one of the 0.00000001% of people who rule the gov. For a gov to give up sovereignty to save the lives of the majority of their population from death is also a smart choice by government. Fights that you cannot or very likely will not win are rarely worth engaging in
