I'm curious why that is.
Why isn't the media reporting about South Africa's land seizures?
-
I've been planning to make a list of media that reported it and those that did not, perhaps with a few comments about the slant. The Guardian, for instance, *still* hasn't said anything about it, in spite of their feverish obsession with South Africa. However, Reuters reported it quite responsibly.

Even Google News has effectively stifled any links to the story:
You need to search for "South Africa land" to see any reports on it. This is unbelievable.

Was thinking about this story today, as I was drinking SA wine. What is going to happen to all that good wine?
You think Yaguba and Matimba have the agricultural knowledge to grow Shiraz with Cabernet grapes to make the perfect mixed variety paring with a steak? Hmmm gonna go with a no.
Sad day bros sad day. I will have to switch over to Chilean/Oz wine to get my souther hemisphere fix.

Curious what you guys are reading. Because all I see are parliamentary debates about land reform, not any actual widespread land-grabbing.

The ANC is the poster child of the western media. Western media has been instrumental in the success of the ANC. They would never dare post anything too negative about them.
Its no surprise that this gets no coverage. Its not a popular liberal topic. Land grabs in Zimbabwe also got relatively little media attention for a very long time.

Not really, it is difficult.
Where can they go? Most only have South African passports - European countries treat them just like every other African passport.
Its not easy for white South AFrican's to go anywhere.
Additionally, there are exchange controls and only about $800k can be taken out of the country in a calander year. This limit is problematic for large scale farmers.
Are white landowners in SA trying to sell and get out?

Huh. I thought they would have some kind of special connection to other commonwealth countries.
-
Simply false. Yes some can but this is a very small minority.
Most white English speakers can find enough ancestors to get UK residency (and many already have). Afrikaners are SOL.
No, no special connection. UK used to have a youth working VISA but cancelled it for South Africa a few years ago.

Hint: if you refuse any sort of majority rule until after a brutal civil war, you can kiss goodbye to any mercy when the majority does take power.
South Africa has somewhat less bad blood, better courts, and some people in the ANC who are far from stupid (Gordhan, say). Here’s hoping they make it work.
