ugly software as canned Stata/Eviews? In industry, esp. at places that pay relatively huge $$$, people never ever even have heard of Stata/Eviews; instead, they use Python, Matlab, R, or C++. Please note that doesn't necesarily mean their work is overwhelmingly different from economists'. In fact, they do lots of similar things as what economists do, say, regression, data analysis and prep., modelling, etc.
I can't understand why, except that economists generally are lacking in ability and innovativeness, etc.
