True, you probably draw more attention quicker in top journals, but the Nobel committee looks a quality :-) That's what I tried to say before. A paper published in, say, JME will get enough attention, and you should be happy about that even though it's AER-level paper. See, for example, the Calvo (1983) paper and the Hansen (1985). See also the paper of Edmund Phelps that was published in The Swedish Journal of Economics, but still considered as an important paper in literature. Learn from this experience and move on. You have one bird in hand...
