Guys don’t forget to apply for non-YPP positions too. YPs get paid a lot less than economists but we are now all vetted to work at the GF level.

What term should we use for our situation in our cover letters? YPP finalist (selected for employment consideration)?

-> people not hired: is it because your skills, or because there were no business needs ? I mean, I would always find a business need for a Nobel Prize...
-> How do we mention this "achievement" without looking like someone "bragging about a failure" ? I'm sure it can help to mention it when applying to positions inside the bank if it's done elegantly.
-> is it common for people to re-apply and make it ? or to re-apply and fail even more ?all best,

For those that received offers, how long did you wait in between the letter of intent and letter of appointment. Still awaiting the form to fill for my background check…
May 4 - LOI, May 12 - LOA, but I had to chase for my letter of appointment, since my notice period is three months. I ended up having a call with HR before they sent it to me. And my background check started AFTER the letter of appointment. I've heard the background check can take a while. Already I've had them come back with so many more requests for information...
What is the starting salary this year?

it varies by experience.

Can someone do the math on what is the approximate equivalent of a pre-tax salary in the DC in the private sector for that $125,000 / year. Those offers are “net” and the WBG has a way of compensating for some (but usually not 100%) of taxes that are paid on wages.
Thanks!

It’s going to vary on a lot of factors- dependents, marriage, state, year, etc. If you are a US citizen, you’ll be responsible for half your social security and Medicaid taxes, even with the tax allowance they provide. A very quick calculation would be to divide your net offer by something like .73. That should give a very rough estimate on your gross with the tax allowance they provide.

There are offers in the 130s this year
As a rule of thumb, the YP Office does not offer salaries near the median range in order to keep it fair for other bank staff who come in at GF level but not as YPs. If someone ends up at the median range as a YP, it will only be because they have a lot of experience in a similar institution and impressive credentials. YPs are also known to lie to fellow YPs about their actual salary so take information they tell you with a pinch of salt.

In addition, the YP should note that this salary does not include other amounts such as relocation, mobility premiums etc, all of which increase your total package. And yes, the only time you should worry about taxes is if you are a US citizen and even then, there are hardly any YPs who are US citizens.
