Yes, of course. This is an important recruitment indicator. But I don't know the weights.
Do the YPP applications open annually? I'm a 2024 grad, unsure if I should submit 2023 applications just in case...I think you can submit for IFC, MIGA/JPA
YPP applications open annually, and have for decades. I'd suggest looking at the JPO program if you don't have a master's degree yet, otherwise your application will just get rejected (see requirement for holding a master's by Sept 22 and/or a doctorate by Sept 23).

Despite the essay question changes, the essay should be developed from a presentation of your academic and professional background, indicating the competencies and experiences that demonstrate your passion and commitment to international development. The cultural fit between you and the preferred institution must also be demonstrated in order to substantiate your choice.
Then, as requested, you must discuss how the World Bank Group as a whole can help its country clients support and reach a green, resilient and inclusive development. Explain how you can help to construct joint solutions in the WBG inside your area of expertise, as well as how you in your area of work can assist in rebuilding on progress lost on the WBG’s twin goals over the past few years.

Does it make sense to apply if you’re in your 2nd year in a PhD program?
It depends if you have additional work experience. The minimum requirements for the program are as follow:
For the World Bank placement:
Holding a Master’s (MSc) qualification with a minimum of three years of: a) relevant professional experience related to development, or; b) continued academic study at doctorate level;
Holding a doctorate (even if you do not have any professional experience).
Please note that for the WB placement, candidates must complete a relevant master’s degree by September 2022 or a PhD before September 2023. The Fields of study should be related to one of the World Bank Business Areas.
For the IFC & MIGA placement:
Holding a graduate degree or a MA/MBA (or equivalent) with a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in areas relevant to those organizations, including but not limited to Economics, Finance, International Relations, Science and Engineering.

In the further information section it says “If you hold a Master’s with three years’ relevant work experience and are taking the first year of a doctorate program, you may apply for the WB placement”. I have 2 years of relevant work experience, a master’s degree and have completed 2 years of my PhD. Does that make me eligible?
