Is there any chance for a white male from an EU country working toward a PhD in Agr Econ without any working experience in development, however, with very good grades and publication in a top tier journal? Looking at previous cohorts, it seems like majority are women and certainly most, if not all, are from developing countries.

You are absolutely qualified and I strongly encourage you to apply. When you write your essays, make sure you highlight how your experience from your research can further the ambitions of the bank. Whats critical is for you to display your strong passion for development.
There have been people with your profile in previous cohorts. Dont be discouraged by the demographics of previous cohorts.

The essay questions for this year were announced:
Question 1 In 500 words or less, please tell us what inspires you to work at the World Bank Group and why you would be a good fit for the WBG YPP. You may incorporate your personal and professional experience (area of expertise, region or sector) in your answer.
Question 2 In 500 words or less, please share your thoughts on the value of the new World Bank Group Young Professionals Program and why joint WBG solutions (public, public-private & private) to development challenges are so important.
What do you think of this questions, they are really different from the previous years.

What do you think of this questions, they are really different from the previous years.Think this is a much better format, requires people to be succinct and gives the HR review team less to read (1,500 words last time, roughly 6,000 applications is around 9 million words!).

The YP from previous years created a free course online that explored the program much more in-depth than the live session. It can be accessed here: YPPmentor.com
You can also contact them for advise at admin@yppmentor.com
As they are doing this out in their spare time so please try to do your own research first before approaching them directly.

I don't have one, but I know that this site https://www.openigo.com/world-bank-ypp/ they have an Application Review, where they review the documents for your application and a ebook. Contact them to see if they have a sample for the essay.
Hello does anyone have a sample of an essay of previous years of candidate that reached the interview stage? I know that this year there are 2 500 words essays instead of one 1000 words. But I am looking for some guidance on how to structure it...

What is the profile of the median successful applicant? HRM / MRM? Do LRM or VLRM stand a chance?
US LRM need not apply. If from a po orly represe nted country then have a chance. EJMR categorises non US, non LSE UCL as LRM or VLRM. world bank disagr ees. If from a top program in a European country (Oxford, UPF etc) then you are just as elaable as a MRM.

Is there any indication that there will be more applicants selected for the new YPP program, as they are selecting on behalf of IFC, MIGA, and IBRD? Or as far as we can tell, will it be that much more competitive than previous years, with applicants for all three institutions competing for the 40ish postitions previously selected? Not clear to me from the Openigo guidebook or YPP website. Thanks.

I registered and tried to view the videos on the site but I couldnt. Perhaps they need to optimise the website abit

I am thinking of putting my essays under the form of bullet points, to really keep my answers short and go straight to the point.
Knowing that internally WB people surely communicate this way. But it's a risk given how formal this org is. What do you guys suggest? -
I bought the openIGO book and in my view it is not worth it. The book is just a collection of information (sometimes literally copy pasted) that you easily find on the WBG homepage. In addition, the "tips" on essays and other steps of the application are outdated given this years changes.

I bought the ebook, they are updating the ebook and make available new edition since the program this year changed. They update the Essay chapter, including the Essay samples on the chapter. I'm thinking now in buying the Application Review Service, I'm just looking into more infos about.
