Any thoughts about this position?
WU Vienna Full Professor of Finance and Impact Investment
-
Why not macro-finance and financial econometrics?
Because the public does not care about financial econometrics and they already have a stats department at WU.
More importantly, the caliber of a macro-finance person that would come to WU is much lower than the caliber of someone that works in some niche (in this case impact investment) and gets the opportunity to be treated like a non-niche researcher.
I already know that this thread will end up like the other WU thread in which people (probably WU students) talk as if WU could hire HRM scholars... lol.

LOL, doesn't have to end up that way, if WU hires Cochrane ;)
Unfortunately, Austria is too irrational for highly rational finance people.
Since it's a niche, who are the potential candidates? -
When you look at the job ad (link above), it is so specific that it basically only applies to one single person in the universe, who happens to be on the staff list of WU Finance. When you then look at the committee (link above), it basically consists of former advisors and current colleagues and friends of that person. So this is how it's done in Austria. Good luck with your application, my friends.

What a terrible strategy. I was told that this is also common in related areas in Austria, so not just in WU finance.

Well, since WU has received a substantial budget hike and will be hiring 30 new senior faculty members, we're gonna see a lot more threads like this.
I have no clue who that person might be, but is this a substitute position for Rammerstorfer, who is going to be a vice-dean next year?

Don't forget that Austrian Universities have only recently gained some form of autonomy. Before that it was all run by the government bureaucrats, so no strategy at all.
The progress of established unis is so slow and cumbersome that bureaucrats decided to establish a new state of the art STEM postgraduate institute just outside of Vienna, which has its own legal status and set of rules, see IST Austria. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_of_Science_and_Technology_Austria -

Who at WU does research in impact investing? I googled it and could not find anyone.

You people are clueless when it comes to university politics, even though you have all the ingredients to solve the puzzle.
Let me lay it out for you, Sherlock style:
1) Rammerstorfer is on a fixed term contract due to expire soon.
2) she has been appointed vice dean
3) she needs a formal contract, i.e. university position to do the Dean job.
4) All deans are professors.
5) she is not on the hiring committee, but her buddies are. Now, do you know who I put my money on for this appointment, Dr Watson?
