I think he cannot make it much worse with police and crackdowns. More likely is that his mismanagement causes economic collapse, which leads to political chaos. I don't think he will last more than 5-10 more years, but I'm worried how much damage he does in the meantime.
What you are saying is true. But my point is that they are just stupid policymakers (in fact, just Xi since some people in his government are smart). I do not think their approach will even lead to the outcomes that they want. So the time horizon of their strategy does not matter if they are playing a bad strategy.

Correct. The political situation in China is based on the party delivering growth. Failure to deliver growth is really the only threat to party power, and everyone in the party knows it. Have no doubt: if there are serious economic problems Xi will be forced out. But at that point I'm not sure the damage can be contained.
