B-based Narita-sama!
Yusuke Narita in the NY Times

better than advocating for replacement.
The NYT is somehow invested, to a comical degree, in proving that Japan is a dystopia and that the only way to avoid that path is by massive unregulated immigration.
At this point, they should just have a section called “Japan Hellscape Rumors” or similar.

He grew up poor. His brother and him will not stop at anything for money, including saying very attention-seeking, amoral comments on television.
There is a silver lining though. He is getting Japanese people especially younger generations to seriously debate and think about important societal issues instead of being politically apathetic.Hardly - he's pretty unknown here outside of 5chan incel circles and we already have Horie Takafumi who's a much better troll.

^ all the snakes here celebrating the hits to his career prospects show why woke is so powerful. It’s just an excuse for settling interpersonal scores, as is most civil war violence. Another Yale professor Stathis Kalyvas has a great book on this phenomenon
Nah we aren't celebrating it. He brought it upon himself... And this is not a woke vs not woke thing either.
I’m using “Woke” as code for illiberalism. His political activism should have no bearing on his tenure prospects.
It's not the political activism if you make rash comments as such. Could have phrased it better

The thing about far right communities is that they eventually leak into mainstream societal discourse. This is true in every country that has a large proportion of people on the Internet. He has already been given 2 platforms as a host/discussant with the Hiroyuki dude who owns 4chan, you can see that each video of these 2 channels
ABEMA 変わる報道番組 #アベプラ【公式】@prime_ABEMA
which is minority owned by Studio Asahiand
日経テレ東大学 @keizailabo
which is owned by Nikkei (which owns Financial times)averages around 1 million views. Even if they were only viewed by Japanese youths with far right tendencies, the fact that he's even given a mainstream platform by these two mainstream mass media giants means that he has opened doors into mainstream Japanese society online. And we know the majority of online netizens are the younger generations.

Cultures that do this implicitly or explicitly will win
define "win". and even if such a culture "won", I wouldn't want to live in a heartless and inhumane culture like that. Everyone will become old one day, I wouldn't mind euthanizing myself when I'm old and a burden to society, but only if I am given free choice to pick. No one should be forced into euthanasia.

Sure, but
1. to what extent will you hold this position? will you starve the young to preserve the old? This trade-off is much more stark in Japan. Your average yoiung liberal/progressive/right-winger would have been sympathetic to Narita in Japan.
2. You need a Thrasymachus to keep Socrates real. Narita's suggestion is too wild, but he probably means to initiate a honest conversation. You people must be forced to make good arguments, not just hide behind sophistry of "how dare you??" "you are evil" "you want to kill grandma??"
3. This is coming to Europe and America too. Watch out.

Autistic Thrasymachus is lit. Come @ us, Socrates:
“Maybe old people shouldn’t all commit seppuku, but we need to think creatively about how they can have dignity in a world where many are only burdens. With technological change becoming more rapid, they no longer even have wisdom to offer young generations. Need new solutions.
The idea that they should sacrifice *something* for young people isn’t even being seriously considered. If nothing else gov shouldn’t keep spending all its money on them and giving them advantages in the job market through civil rights law. See also covid.
You see this also in the ridiculous debate over Canadian euthanasia. Even those that don’t want to be burdens, many people feel like we should keep forcing it on them. Like we’re only comfortable in a social order where the young are burdened for the sake of the old.“
