Zhiguo He has made BFI at UChicago a china forum
-
He is promoting Bitcoin since 2015. Bitcoin is designed to undermine FED's credibility (and the U.S. consequently).
^ he is a CCP propagandist
Is it surprising that he is? Zhiguo He was the Secretary of the CCP Youth League back in college, was on track to serving the core of the CCP party should he have stayed. We need tougher scrutiny on the CCP people at the US schools
-
This is huge. If there is evidence of his CCP affiliation and prominent role in the party system, Chicago should act!

this cannot be true, because the CCP youth league is only for middle school and high school.
I believe he is a CCP advocate, but it makes no sense to spread fake news like this.

Why should Chicago worry about this? Econ is not like STEM, there is no technology to steal.

There's a stratagem written in a little book called the Art of War written around 500 B.C. on "psychological warfare".
It states that you create false conspiracies surrounding top generals in the hope that the king (of a belligerent kingdom) kills all his best men. In return, the kingdom becomes weak. I feel like the Chinese are egging these conspiracies so that all the top Chinese American talent have no choice but to leave. It reverses the brain drain that hurts China.

On the other hand, after thinking about it, I feel like there are a lot of dumb people that also love to perpetuate these conspiracies who are not Chinese.

The US prides itself for being an immigrant society because top talent congregate here from all over the world. One of its key selling points is freedom of speech and freedom to do research on anything as long as it's good. That is why Chicago won't do anything to ZH, especially when there is nothing to steal in econ, unlike physics or chemistry (or maybe STATA skills, ljl).
On the other hand, it would be beneficial for CCΡ if ZH stayed at his important position in one of the top schools in econ academia, both to promote the party line and "watch over" fellow Chinese scholars in the US. That is why he won't be voluntarily going back anytime soon, because it is the best outcome for him both personally (research freedom, prestige and salary at Chicago) and for the party.
